Designed for a family of three, this healthy home supports daily life, work from home, and long visits from family. A high-performance envelope of prefabricated straw wall panels and a ventilated roof create a breathable, highly insulated shell that supports passive heating, cooling, and natural ventilation.
A compact footprint keeps the garden central to the experience of the home, while a carefully daylit basement expands living space without increasing the home’s presence on the site.
Inside, rammed earth panels line the circulation spine, bringing thermal mass and quiet texture. Clerestory windows draw soft daylight and fresh air deep into the interior. Salvaged and locally milled oak, lime plaster walls, and non-toxic finishes create a warm, natural interior environment designed for long-term comfort and wellbeing.
The house and ADU are arranged around two mature coast live oaks, with native plantings, greywater irrigation, and food gardens supporting a resilient landscape. All-electric systems and rooftop solar allow the home to operate with zero net emissions.
