B Corp

What is a B Corp?

A B-Corp is a legal business structure, like an S-Corp or a LLC, but instead of just being focused on making money or avoiding liability, respectively, a B-Corp has a corporate responsibility to support human welfare, to protect and improve the environment, and to be a stable and sustainable company, which protects people’s jobs, by making a profit. But profit is not the sole goal of a B-Corp; it is a means by which to support and sustain the other goals of the company, protect people and the planet.

Why Should I care?

Just as we help determine the future of our country by voting at the ballot box, we also determine the future of our planet and the people and animals and plants who live here by voting with our wallets. When you chose to purchase from a company that protects the things that you value, that supports the people in your community with good pay, benefits and a safe and respectful work environment and that makes the world a better place by purchasing materials that don’t exploit our natural resources or contain toxic chemicals, you are supporting an entire business ecosystem that helps to build a better world, in your community and throughout the world.

A Different Ethos

Purchasing Policy - Regardless of our size, the types of homes we build or how fast we grow, we believe that one of the most impactful ways businesses can drive justice is by actively supporting representation, diversity, and equity in their supply chains. Earth Bound Homes' is committed to investing extra time and effort when researching options to find vendors and suppliers that align with our mission and values, and are also open to switching providers whenever a viable alternative becomes available. For that reason, we made a commitment to keep the diversity of our non-labor suppliers above 65%, with a goal of 75% within the next 2 years or as quickly as possible.

We are proud of our commitment to work with suppliers and vendors that come primarily from local* businesses. Earth Bound Homes' goals for 2023/2024 are to incrementally increase the percentage of our local supply and vendor partners ensuring they are majority-owned by women and/or individuals from underrepresented populations. Additionally, we prioritize companies that hire local talent and provide local, high paying jobs with benefits, to our neighbors and Community-At-Large. By supporting the businesses and people within the construction industry, we help build an entire community that can provide the services and infrastructure that help our community thrive.

Additionally, our commitment is to continue to work only with local homeowners(customers), working on their local* homes. 100% of our clients live in our community. We do not develop any properties for our own investments. We do not work for developers or develop any properties for sale, also called “spec” or speculative homes. We do not build commercial, multi-family, or public projects. We are focused and dedicated to working only with local* homeowners, who own their homes and who will live in these homes that we build for them. By focusing on making great homes with talented architects for amazing clients, we focus on doing just one thing, really, really well.

*Local and Independent

For the purposes of the B -Lab’s B Impact Assessment (BIA), "local" is defined as being part of the same community. While the size and distance of a community may vary by context, they should generally be based on a small-scale economically and culturally connected area like a metropolitan area, or in rural settings the county, as well as its surrounding vicinities (usually within 50 miles / 80 km). The 50 mile / 80 km radius is intended to be a guideline to emphasize that the BIA is focused on “small-scale” communities.

Locally and independently owned definition: An independently owned company is one that is free from outside control, meaning that it is privately held and is not a subsidiary of a larger entity. Locally owned means that a majority (over 50%) of the company's ownership is located locally to at least two-thirds of the company's workforce.
