“Reliable, intelligent contractor with great work ethic.”

“Perch water was pooling under our home. There was no simple way to solve the problem. Dave Edwards and the crew from Earthbound solved the problem for us with a series of French drains and sump pumps. Our crawl space has been completely dry now for two, maybe three years. The crew showed up on time and persisted against unforeseen problems—there was a huge amount of water draining underground from the property above our home, and the earth that had to be dug was extremely hard and heavy.

Every bill we received was itemized. We knew exactly how our money was used. Every employee that worked on the project was competent. Our job was small compared to the projects the company generally handles, but Dave showed up to check on progress just the same.

Since then we have consulted Dave about other projects. His knowledge is extensive and he is extremely helpful. Also, his recommendations for specific jobs, like plumbers, or electricians, solar installation are excellent.

EarthBound is, indeed, a green building company, but it is also a reliable and competently run company, with high standards and a commitment to customer satisfaction.”

“We are using Dave Edwards of Earthbound Homes to remodel our entire 5,500 sq ft house. One of the many qualities I was so excited about Dave is that he uses only non-toxic, energy and resource efficient building materials because it was important to us to have a home that doesn’t off gas toxic chemicals and to have a healthier environment for us that will cost less to run and maintain. He teaches about green technology and he is extremely knowledgeable, has a great eye for detail, and is very easy to work with. Dave is extremely organized and is always on top of everything, we never have to worry about any aspect of the remodel. I recommend him to all my friends that need a top quality, very professional knowledgable contractor.”

“Dave is an amazing contractor! What we loved the most about him did not change throughout our construction process and it only shows that he is very honest and upfront.

Earthbound homes was hired to build/renovate our house based on the fact that they are focused on sustainable building, the fact that Dave is very knowledgeable, honest and a great communicator. And they delivered!

He didn’t give us the lowest quote but we believe it was the most accurate to where we ended it. He built a beautiful house for us and we could not be happier! He did everything possible to communicate throughout the whole experience, that meant taking my phone calls, emailing and calling us for questions, checking in with structural engineer and an architect when he didn’t have clear instructions. He knows everything about everything and we have gotten the best advices from him about materials to use and ways to build things even if he wasn’t doing them!

Everything that was put in this house was toxins and VOC free. The team deconstructed rather than demolished the old parts of the house and reused everything they could. That is Green building!!

Dave isn’t just great with his clients, he also cares about his team. People that work with him, have been there for years. He makes sure they get educated in areas they need and want to improve, get health benefits (how many contractors do that!!!) and are treated fairly. We were very impressed.”

“Dave did an seperate addition, a mother in law unit, for my family. It was made out of Structural Insulated Panels. He and his crew did a great job. They are the most experienced SIP’s builders in the bay area for sure. Dave handled the engineering of the pre-fab building, which was a little tricky and took lots of repitition with the company, but it turned out great.

He is the “greenest” builder I know of in every respect. He always uses sustainably harvested FSC lumber, low and no VOC adhesives and finishes, pays his guys well and gives them HOLIDAYS OFF. I know of no other builder who is so socially responsible through and through.”

“Just finished a remodel of three rooms in our home. We are so very pleased! The construction period was quite tolerable. The site was immaculate. There was zero problem with dust or construction mess. The workers were very careful not to let our cats escape. The suggestions of the project manager enhanced our original plan. Above all, Earth Bound has respectful, responsible, dependable and competent employees from office staff to artisans. Plus, the insulation and whole house fan Dave Edwards recommended are excellent. Now, every time some one visits, they think we have air conditioning—-even on days when the temp is 90+. We are enjoying the fruits of Earth Bound’s labor!”

“We can’t say enough great things about Dave and Earth Bound Homes! We recommend them whenever we can as they quality of work, professionalism and cost of work is fantastic. We used them for both our original whole home remodel after a complete loss fire in 2007 and then again in 2014 for an addition.”

“I hired Earth Bound Homes to build the addition on our house. I could not expect to be happier with the result. Dave, the owner, and Jose, the foreman and their team were extremely professional and accommodating.

Dave happily worked with us to figure out what parts of the job could be economized or could be done by us, the homeowners. Once we agreed on a scope of work and a price, Dave stuck with it as much as possible. We had some additional work due to hidden damage to the our 70-year-old house that was revealed during construction, but there were no surprises from the contractor side. Also, when minor changes were made to the plan, either by us or the engineer, the price did not change.

Dave is extremely intelligent and knowledgeable about building technology, bringing his expertise, and the accumulated expertise of his team to bear in a number of situations when questions inevitably came up.

He and Jose are tremendous sticklers for detail often reworking minor issues I, as the homeowner, would have ignored in their relentless pursuit of perfection. In one case, the rafters had been placed, but the notches making flats for the beams were too deep for Dave’s taste. Jose’s team took down the rafters and put up new ones cut more perfectly all on EBH’s nickel.

Our building inspector loved coming to see the progress on our house, knowing he was going to see fine workmanship. It’s really nice having a building inspector on your side.

I really liked EBH’s attitude about recycling and environmental materials. The environmental impact of the materials and the waste was a consideration at every step. We had lots of extra dirt and another job they were working on needed dirt, so the dirt was transferred from our house to theirs and the savings were passed on to us.

My one complaint, if you can call it that, was that some of the bills were late in coming. Apparently, EBH was trying to find a new bookkeeper while they were working on our house. Late bills are not a huge issue and I believe they have worked out their staffing issues.

The house is beautiful and and all the details are perfect. I give Earth Bound Homes the highest recommendation.”

“We used Earth Bound Homes for a full remodel with an addition. Dave and his crew were a pleasure to work with. EBH took the project from design to completion. Subcontractors and suppliers were well managed, Dave’s crew was helpful and friendly. I was particularly impressed with his approach which encouraged the re-use of materials whenever possible, to minimize waste and cost.

When the inevitable hiccups occurred Dave was on top of things, pushing hard to get results. He was very responsive to questions and concerns and made sure we were satisfied with the work every step of the way. He was also very helpful in providing suggestions or options when choices seemed overwhelming. He has an excellent eye for design. We love our beautiful ‘new’ home. We wholeheartedly recommend Dave Edwards and Earth Bound Homes to anyone considering the renovation of their home.”

“We’re using Earthbound Homes again—-this time for a remodel. I’ve been reminded of how well Dave selects his employees. Everyone who works for him is competent, conscientious and kind. Alex, who has been doing most of the work on our small project leaves not a spec of dust behind (and removing our popcorn ceiling has been one of his tasks). There have been some hiccoughs—as there always are in construction and remodels, but every day progress is made. Also, I’ve been reminded of how thoroughly Dave and his crew strive to understand what they are doing. There won’t be problems down the line with what they do here. They evaluate, plan and execute only when they are satisfied that they know exactly how to handle things.”

“We remodeled our house 3 times - first the bathrooms, then the kitchen, and lastly added a second floor with some extensive layout changes and on the first floor. Each time it was David and his crew who did the work.

For the 3rd remodel, we looked around and there were certainly some guys who were offering lower quotes. One guy couldn’t even handle the pdf’s of my architect’s designs. Another gave me what looked like a boiler-plate quote. They were certainly lower but didn’t leave me feeling confident that they could handle the job effectively or at the quoted price. What we realized at the end of the job was that you get what you pay for. We have a beautiful house and we get tons of compliments.

David is professional, conscientious and pays great attention to detail. We subcontracted some of the work separately and David & team worked well with them.

We agreed with some of the “green” options that Dave suggested but, for cost & time reasons, we went with more conventional options.”

“Dave designed the complete (down to foundation and studs) remodel of our home after a fire. He listened to our basic ideas and then built on those with fabulous suggestions on both style and functionality. The original plan was to flip our home a few years after purchasing, but now we’re so in love that we couldn’t imagine ever moving! It fits our style perfectly.

He also showed us how to incorporate green building into our home and while it wasn’t initially a priority for us, the suggestions were within our budget and ended up saving us money! We love the efficiencies and energy savings and how effortless it is now.

There were the usual issues along the way, most of them out of anyone’s control, however Dave managed the project well and stayed on top of small issues before they became big ones. He was very good about invoicing and keeping us in the loop on costs vs. our budget as well as how any changes affected our budget. He and his crew were also very responsive and always got back to us about concerns quickly.”

“We had to completely remodel (almost tear down) a house we just bought because of hidden water/mold damage. We already knew that we wanted to utilize Green Building techniques and materials, and chose Earthbound Homes for this huge project.

Although the unexpected size and nature of the remodel was traumatic both emotionally and financially, Earthbound Homes guided us every step of the way. Most of the house was torn down to the studs, all the water/mold/termite damaged framing was repaired/replaced, and major new systems were installed: water/plumbing, heating and ventilation, lighting, and electrical, as well as custom network and audio-visual wiring. As with any custom building project, we relied upon Earthbound for design suggestions as well as continuing communication about ways to optimize our budget.

We have lived in our remodeled house almost 2 years now, and continued to be pleased with all the Green Building decisions that Dave Edwards helped us make. Dave is amazingly knowledgeable about all aspects of sustainable building/living, yet doesn’t “force” decisions about any particular technology or materials.

We love our house, and knowing that we will continue to save energy and minimize our environmental impact into the future definitely increases our enjoyment even more.”

“I am a local interior designer, specializing in green and healthy products. David did a recent remodel for one of my clients. The best thing about working with him is that you know he will put quality and energy efficiency first. So many contractors will try and cut corners, and this affects the durability, livability and energy use of the home. You might get a lower bid from some guy with a truck. I recommend Dave because I want my client to have a home that will be warm and comfortable, that will save on energy bills, and will have attention to every detail: from how long it takes you to get hot water for your shower, to how the tile fits around the window sill in the kitchen. He gets the whole picture of what makes a quality building job, and I can trust him to make my plans look great.”

“Earth Bound Homes has an unwavering commitment to Green Building and Sustainable Design. David Edwards and his team go out of their way to ensure that the work they do meets high standards in craftsmanship and attention to detail. They also, on their own initiative, research and suggest the use of alternative materials when they feel specified products aren’t going to achieve desired energy savings results or efficiencies. A recent project of ours built by Earthbound Homes achieved more than 250 Green Point Rating points. We recommend David to a lot of our clients and we know that he would take great care of them. He communicates with the entire team, owners, architects etc and thus help push the envelope.”

“Earth Bound Homes did a seismic retrofit for us. The necessary work was explained in detail before the project got started with frequent updates during the project. Everything was completed on time and on budget. The team was professional and friendly. Overall a great experience! I will certainly recommend them to friends and consider Earth Bound Homes for future projects.”

“Dave Edwards and his guys did a great job on our remodel. They were quick and clean. Also, I feel better knowing we used sustainable materials and I don’t have to worry about the toxic gases given off by materials other companies use.”

Scott S.

“Integrity, honesty and conviction.

Earth Bound Homes is a green building company because of Dave Edwards’ personal drive and commitment to being as green as can be, and not because clean tech is fashionable. He also possesses that rare ability to know what you’ll like and what you won’t, as opposed to telling you how much he knows. He’s not afraid to tell you when you’re wrong, and this saved us a massive amount of time on our project.

We built an immediate trust relationship, something that I’ve never felt comfortable with with any other contract company. In case you hadn’t figured this out, I’m really picky. If you want to use non-sustainable materials, go somewhere else. Dave stands behind his convictions. If you want the peace of mind that you have done everything as green as possible to the highest standards within your budget, you can’t do better than Earth Bound Homes.”

Paul W.

“My husband and I recently had a room addition done by Earth Bound Homes. They did the work within budget, used sustainable materials, and the crews, even sub-contractors, were professional. We wanted to keep costs down, so we did some of the work ourselves, and the contractor was agreeable to this approach. It’s nice knowing that the impact on the earth was kept to a minimum through this remodel. Great job!”

“David Edwards and the team at Earthbound Homes and I have been hired to collaborate on a beautiful new custom home in the Peninsula area, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to work with them. Our initial meeting was great and I am very excited about the good things to come from our partnership.

As a designer, my job is to help the client understand the decisions and how they correlate to the builders schedule for a seamless process. David was very supportive of my design suggestions and so helpful! Team work is key to great building and design and I couldn’t be happier to work with Earthbound Homes.”

“We used Earth Bound Homes twice, once in 2009 for our kitchen remodel and then in 2012 for our great room addition. Earth Bound Homes had good communication, were accessible, flexible and their workers Jose and Francisco are awesome! They could be reached easily. When it started to rain unexpectantly, I called Dave Edwards and he was at our house in minutes to cover things up!

Their workers are talented. When there was a miscommunication regarding the depth of the pantry, Francisco took down the wall and made it deeper in 90 minutes! I found the workers friendly, considerate and knowledgeable.

Earth Bound Homes did all the framing up to the sheet rock for both our remodels. Their sheet rockers ROCKED IT! They are incredibly fast!

Thank you Earth Bound Homes!”

“Dave is my go to person when it comes to building the sustainable
environment. His knowledge and expertise on what it means to be “Green”
is surpassed by no other company. I would highly recommend them to build my home.”

My name is Scott Shrader I am the president of Pacific Drywall & Painting Inc. in Campbell. Right away when I got to the job site before starting I noticed the quality of workmanship and attention to detail and the job site was every clean. Dave was very responsive to my calls which made working for him very good. He is already using us on another job. Dave is a green Contractor and had several special requests for the job. He used special spray foam insulation though out the home. He also wanted a drywall mud without the chemicals and Voc’s of regular mud. He also wanted to recycle the the drywall scrap from the job to add to the LEED rating of the home. I would recommend Dave and Earth Bond Homes for your next project.”

“SDI Insulation Inc., — Brett Delorenzi — Working with Dave and staff is always a pleasure. We appreciate Earth Bound Homes’ honesty, knowledge, and prompt communication. I would recommend Earth Bound, to any person/s that are interested in a green building / energy efficient home. We look forward to working with Earth Bound, in helping with reducing the overall carbon footprint on this Planet, on all of his new construction, and retrofits to existing homes!”

“Earth Bound is handling a kitchen, family room, living room remodel for us. It’s more than half of our 1800 sq ft home and involves removing our chimney. Our house is located on the Penetencia Slide, an area of land that is slowly sliding downhill. Earth Bound evaluated our sliding problem, bringing in a structural engineer, so that we now understand fully what is happening. We made a plan. They are carrying out the work at a rapid clip, with competence and consideration. We have several house cats. The carpenter has been so very conscientious about sealing up holes to keep the felines from wandering outside where predators are lurking (coyotes, bobcats and the occasional mountain lion). There has been NO dust problem. Two HEPA filters are running all the time they are working. The floors are swept clean at the end of every day. They will have the living room completed before Christmas, so that we can expand our living quarters. We have been informed about every change that was not in our original plan. For example, they discovered some plumbing problems that we didn’t know about. We know how every dime is spent. The carpenter, the electrician, the plumber, the drywall professional have all been considerate and competent. They are not intrusive, even though we are living in the house while they are working. Also, the project manager has suggested changes in our plan that have made the job easier without compromising the end goal. For instance, by moving the kitchen wall a little further than planned, we saved moving a door and small piece of wall, cutting down on time and expense. The drywall job looks better than most paint jobs I have seen. We’ve also had trouble with our irritated cats spraying in the living room at night. The carpenter taped scraps of drywall over the places the cats were spraying to protect the new wall. What an aggravation that must be for him—cats messing up his work—-but he has not complained. Also, the project manager and the electrician worked with the city building inspector to come up with a solution that prevented us from having to replace our ancient breaker box. The inspector okayed placing a sub-box in the laundry room to handle the circuits for the kitchen and washer/dryer. The project manager also took over selecting a roofer to patch the hole the chimney left. I was relieved that he did this. I was having a difficult time getting roofers to respond and our metal roofing tiles have been discontinued. This project is progressing on-time, the craftsmen working on our home are top-notch and considerate. The project manager has adapted the schedule so that we will soon be able to regain a large part of our living space. I don’t think this project could be progressing any better than is. We are looking forward to enjoying the new spaces they are creating. I give my highest recommendation to Earth Bound homes.”

“We have had the pleasure of working with Earth Bound Homes on more than one occasion. Our company prides itself in fine craftsmanship and it’s always exciting to work with a contractor that has the same priorities.

In our experience Dave has been courteous, professional and engaged in each of his projects. His team is talented, focused, and detail-oriented.

We highly recommend Earth Bound Homes to anyone looking toward their next construction project!”

“Earthbound Homes has provided excellent service to us both as a General Contractor and as a resource for us when we have had questions about sustainability issues, resources, and materials.
David Edwards and Randy Potter and their team have been diligent and timely in providing service. Their work has been of a uniformly high quality.
Earthbound Homes is about to start construction on another complex project for a client of ours. We’re looking forward to working with them again.”

“Earth Bound Homes performed the complete renovation of our house (down to the studs) over 5 years ago. Dave Edwards is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of green construction, and the advice he gave to guide our choices resulted in a beautiful, comfortable, efficient house that we love. At the same time, Dave and the site manager were respectful of the issues in which we had strong opinions and worked with us to arrive at solutions that satisfied everyone.”

“Dave and his crew did our kitchen remodel and more. This company did such good work that we had them do a lot of other jobs that needed doing around the house. Dave knows his stuff and will help steer you towards good decisions, but go along with what you want, even if it’s not what he recommended. His workers are wonderful people, who do excellent work. I also felt good knowing that Dave pays his guys a real salary and gives them benefits. This fact, along with their commitment to be green, is why we chose Earthbound and would work with them again in a second.”

Kristin M.

“My wife and I worked with Dave, Randy, and his stellar crew, to remodel our kitchen. We are very happy with the result. Every step of the way, Dave’s crew was extremely courteous, professional, and had high attention to detail. What impressed me most was how we were advised of any potential issues by Dave and with full disclosure. Complete transparency is key to establishing client trust and we very much appreciated it. Dave and Team smoothly worked through any issues that came up, No drama. Since a remodel is stressful enough as it is, having a conscientious builder is highly valuable.

In addition, if you want to work with a builder that provides pragmatic sustainable building alternatives, Earth Bound Homes is excellent. I believe as of four years ago, Dave’s own house was the highest Green Point rated house in CA. Always good to practice what you offer.

I definitely would recommend EarthBound Homes to others.”

“I have been working with Earth Bound Homes over the last few years and I have always enjoyed working with them and witnessing first hand their professionalism and craftsmanship. David and his team are very well experienced and the beautiful projects I have seen them complete in a skilled and timely manner proves this. I highly recommend using the very reliable and hard working guys at EBH on any remodeling project.”

“We hired Earth Bound Homes to remodel our ranch style home - add a second floor and double the size of our home. Earth Bound helped us create the ideal new home for our family using environmentally friendly materials including spray foam insulation - which has significantly reduced our utility bills. The quality of work is excellent and in the 6 years since we moved back in we have not had any issues relating to the remodel. We are pleased with the way the project turned out.”

Usha S.

“I have worked with Dave of Earthbound Homes for several years specifically during the deconstruction phase of houses that he works on. While I don’t get to be in on the final building phase, this part of the job is no less important. Part of what has impressed me on every job we have done is the completeness of the deconstruction. Everything possible that can be donated for reuse (pretty much everything in good, reusable condition), from appliances to lumber, is carefully removed and donated. His ongoing commitment to this with every project shows a real respect for the environment. The fact that he also does it with skill makes my job easy (I appraise donated materials). This is one area many builders skip in favor of quick demo, not Earthbound Homes!”

Molly S.

“Earth Bound Homes is doing something really important – they are pushing everybody from homeowners to designers to the construction industry and government jurisdictions, to reach farther and do more to be green, sustainable, energy efficient, and achieve net zero. If it is unclear why, read the latest assessment by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
Simultaneously, Earth Bound builds durable, high quality, beautiful homes.”

“We worked with Earth Bound Homes on a major remodel of an 80-year old house.
Dave and Randy, and their stellar crew, are highly conscientious and very knowledgeable. They always try to “do the green thing” and they don’t take shortcuts.
They collaborated well with our architect and were receptive to their clients’ ideas. They are very good at selecting materials and subcontractors.
We are very happy every day we live with the results.”

Felix K.

“We contracted Earth Bound Homes (EBH) ~ 21/2 years ago for a complete remodel of our home in Menlo Park. From day one, we were impressed with EBH’s expertise in selecting and using sustainable materials and green building practices. Secondly, EBH deployed solid project management and cost management practices including unforeseen or unplanned changes from the original plans. In other words, no surprises in cost overruns or slippage of timelines.

Having gone through prior remodeling projects, we were pleasantly surprised with EBH’s selection of subcontractors. Without exception, all subcontractors had the same philosophy in terms of green practices.
While remodels are an intrusive and emotional process, we highly recommend EBH as a trusted contractor and partner.”

“I worked with Randy Potter and Dave Edwards as a GreenPoint Rater. during 2012/2013. I have known these gentleman and watched their work for the last seven years and found them to be of extremely high integrity with a high sense of excellence. They document their work well, work with good subcontractors, and always deliver a top notch home construction or remodel job. I teach green building seminars as well and have always used their work as examples of how to do it right in my course curricula. I would always recommend them to anyone.”

“I worked with Earthbound Homes on a complete renovation of a 1930’s mediterranean house. They were fully committed to the client’s goals of a sustainable, energy efficient house and contributed many excellent suggestions, without overriding the architectural character that I had designed. Their employees are as dedicated as they are, and the craftsmanship was excellent.

I welcome an opportunity to work with them again and I would recommend them to future clients.”
